Battery Reliance Another "con" when comparing the Pentax P30 to the MX is the battery reliance. I'm not adverse to battery reliant cameras actually, but if there's one thing I love about the MX it's the fact that it feels like it works perfectly with or without batteries.

Pentax lenses are cheap for the quality you get. I love my SMC-M 50mm 1.7. Small. Sharp. Good ergonomics. Decent 135s and 28s are easy to come by for small amounts of money. No clue about zooms. The Pentax forums have a lot of good reviews though. Film and processing are pretty low if you're developing your own black and white.

In fact, the ergonomics are excellent, with the shutter speed dial being easily turned with the right forefinger and having distinct click stops.The DOF preview lever is located on the right side of the lense mount and is also conveniently placed.I think that Pentax got the controls more or less spot on for the P30T.

The P30n is a full manual SLR which can also be used in aperture priority mode. It has a maximum shutter speed of 1/1000 sec with a bulb mode also available. The camera uses DX coding to set the film speeds and there is no way of setting this manually. If a film without DX coding is loaded then the camera will automatically select a film speed.

This is a respectable body. I bought it about 12 years ago and was my primary body until yesterday. While I was buying a macro lens, I played with a newer Pentax body and found that the vibration/noise associated with the P30 was essentially absent. I picked up a ZX-5N. The P30 is now my backup body.

1. The position of the on/off switch. It is on the LHS of the top plat so not convenient for one handed use. But no big deal really. 2. The shutter is really loud and clunky, very un-Pentax like when compared to its predecessors. 3. No manual ISO override I paid £40 for a mint copy. At this price there really is no grounds for complaint.

What the box says The Pentax P30t is not a groundbreaking camera, by any means. It's a weird 90's in-between of the earlier, all-metal manual focusing film cameras of the 70s & 80s and the newer, plasticky auto-focus ones that started popping up in the early 2000s. The P30t is manual focusing with either aperture priority or fully manual modes.
